Cayman Islands Investment Manager welcomes 6th intern

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – In 2014, investment manager Prosperity Capital Management Limited (PCM) took on its first student intern through its partnership with the National Workforce Development Agency (NWDA) as the agency kicked off the National Internship Programme.

Four years later, this partnership continues to be a success as PCM’s fifth intern, Janell Dyer, completes her internship and takes her next step forward. Ms. Dyer joined PCM as Finance Intern in March 2018 while finishing up her courses in Accounting at University College of the Cayman Islands (UCCI), and is now headed off to further her studies at Mount Royal University in Calgary, Alberta, Canada where she will pursue a bachelor’s in Accounting.

Ms. Dyer has “made a significant contribution to PCM’s Finance Department and has been a pleasure to work with”, stated Richard Hastings, Finance Director at PCM.

Sharing some of her thoughts about her internship experience, Ms. Dyer had this to say:

“Throughout my internship as Finance Intern at Prosperity Capital Management Limited, I was fortunate enough to learn about asset managers, along with having a hands-on experience of what they do on a day to day basis. My time at PCM has been a very educational and memorable experience. I have learned many valuable things which will benefit me in my present and future situations. I was able to experience working and how to interact with my colleagues in a professional environment which enabled me to develop and enhance my skills that are essential in the business world. The experience I received has helped mold me as I move forward with my studies and into my career. Therefore, it is important and I encourage other students to involve themselves in internship programs in order to be in a better position of understanding the important aspects of the workplace, to explore one’s career path, and lastly, to make valuable connections.”

Coming on board as PCM’s sixth intern is Diandra McCoy, who is currently studying Accounting at UCCI. PCM is excited to welcome Ms. McCoy as the new Finance Intern and looks forward to working with her in the coming months to help develop her professional skills, and to provide her with practical accounting experience in an office environment.

Commenting on PCM’s participation in the National Internship Programme, Oliver Sinton, Managing Director at PCM, said: “We are delighted to be a part of this programme and provide internship opportunities for Caymanian students. Our goal is to offer students a holistic experience in the workplace, using accounting applications, experiencing one-on-one evaluations, participating in staff meetings. When the student moves on, they leave us with experience of the workplace and confidence in their ability to make a valuable contribution.”

The National Internship Programme is a Cayman Islands Ministry of Human Resources & Immigration and the National Workforce Development Agency initiative, offering young Caymanians the opportunity to gain hands-on experience and to develop their skills and interests in various occupations.

“This partnership with Prosperity Capital Management Limited reinforces the value of practical learning through internships. We are delighted with the success of this programme which has provided participants with insight and knowledge relevant to the finance industry and guidance as they transition into their careers,” stated Dianne Conolly, Manager of Training and Development at the NWDA.
