Cayman Islands Home Affairs Ministry bags top employer award

Group1The Ministry of Home Affairs was recognised as one of the best places to work in the Cayman Islands by The Cayman Islands Society of Human Resources Professionals (CISHRP) on Saturday, 24 May 2014 at its fifth annual Top Employer Awards Gala.

This is the first time that a government department has earned such an award, competing with the private sector. The Ministry was among five winners in the small business category.

“I am delighted that the Ministry’s first time entry has been such a successful one,” lauded the Deputy Governor, Hon. Franz Manderson, Cert. Hon., JP. “Kudos to Chief Officer Eric Bush and his able team for proving that government is a great employer and our entities can score equally well competing with private sector firms. I hope to see more departments proving their mettle in such competitions.”

Award“This award is a testimony to our staff and I am proud to lead such an able team,” Mr. Bush commented. “I congratulate every one of our staff for helping the Ministry earn an award on our first try,” he added.

As part of the selection process to be a top employer, applicants were judged on the physical environment, work atmosphere and camaraderie, compensation and benefits, management practices, employee communications, performance management, learning and development, community involvement and diversity. Following the submission of the application, the organisation’s employees were surveyed and how well the employees’ survey responses backed up the organisation’s claims was a key contributor to its total composite score. A copy of the survey results will be posted on the society’s website, Ministry officials said.
