Cayman Islands: grandmother screams at masked men “there is no money”

Correction – Detectives have confirmed CI $100.00 was stolen from the home owner’s handbag in this incident.

At approximately 2:30pm Wednesday 3 June 2015, three masked men entered a home on Billy Manderson Drive, West Bay and demanded the home owner to get down on the ground. The 67 year old grandmother who was at home with her 5 year old granddaughter was grabbed by the neck and forced to the ground while the three males entered the residence.

The males demanded money and became violent and verbally aggressive when they were told there was no money in the house. After searching the house the three males left on foot. Both the grandmother and granddaughter were extremely shaken up by the incident but did not receive any serious injuries. Both were treated by attending paramedics.

The males who were masked were described as follows.

Male One. Approximately 6’1” in height of slim build. His face was covered with a bandana and wore a dark shirt. He also wore a wig on his head held in place by a cap.

Male two. Was less than 6’ in height and wore light coloured jeans and an orange jacket. He also wore a wig and a Halloween clown mask and spoke with a Caymanian accent.

Male three. The only description given was that he was wearing dark clothing.

The three culprits made off on foot, empty handed after the grandmother repeatedly screamed at them that there was no money and that they must get out.

The RCIPS would like to appeal to the public for any information which may help identify who these individuals are. This was a terrifying ordeal for both the grandmother and child who witnessed the entire incident.
