There will also be refreshments for sale, including home baking, local cooked foods and juices.
“It really will be a day for everyone to enjoy, whether you have children or not,” said Ora Hollebon, chairman of the garden club. “It’s a good opportunity to come out and enjoy the attractions of the Botanic Park during the weekend.”
The family fun day, which will take place from 10am-3pm, is the third event of its kind to be organised by the Garden Club and is intended to encourage residents to visit the Botanic Park.
Founded in 1957, the Garden Club has an active membership of more than 70 gardening enthusiasts, more than half of who have joined in the last six years.
The aims of the club are to: promote interest in, and knowledge of, gardening and all things related to the natural beauty of the Cayman Islands; undertake projects, either as a club, or in concert with others, to beautify the community; promote friendship and understanding among persons of all races and nationalities who share an interest in gardening.
The club usually meets on the first Thursday of each month, often at a member’s garden or at a gardening-related venue, with light refreshments provided following a tour or talk.
Members do not need to have a garden to join, although there is the opportunity to volunteer and help with civic projects the club undertakes.
Previous projects have included landscaping of the gardens at The Pines Retirement Home, Cayman Islands Museum, National Gallery, UCCI, Francis Bodden Girls Home and Bonaventure Boys Home.
The Garden Club holds it’s biennial flower show 31st  March and on the 1st April 2017, which includes special celebrations commemorating its 60 years of existence.
Future Project:  The club will be building four private room gardens at the new Cayman Hospice Care facility for which construction is due to begin soon.
There will be a membership table at the family fun day on 22nd  with further information on the club and details on how to join.
