Cayman Islands firefighters bring Christmas cheer

2DSC_0394At a happy afternoon party that was attended by over 300 kids this year, firefighters of the Cayman Islands Fire Service once again provided some seasonal cheer as well as food and gifts from Santa on Saturday 20 December 2014 at the Airport Road Park.

Santa arrived, as usual, down the big ladder on a fire truck. In addition to toys and gifts that Santa presented, fire personnel cooked hamburgers, hot dogs and joined corporate personnel to serve the food, beverages, snacks, freshly made cotton candy and sno cones as well as slices of cake.

Led by Acting Fire Chief John Bodden and organised by Sub-Officer Ricardo Charlton, fire personnel hosted the event which is generously supported each year by local business and corporations for children in the community.

2DSC_0410“It was a big success,” Mr. Carlton commented after the event that Fire Service personnel have conducted for some 20 years now. “Our very big thanks go to our business and corporate sponsors, without whom none of this would be possible.”

Following the event, the firefighters drove to several areas of George Town, including Rock Hole, Watlers’ Road, the Swamp and Seymour Drive and distributed bags of candy and popsicles to children who could not attend the party, Mr. Charlton said.
