Cayman Islands Film Festival to offer film production workshop

Grand Cayman, Cayman Islands – Organisers of Cayman’s premier film festival announced that Canadian writer, producer and director Lee Chambers will be a part of the CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival schedule this year. His film “The Pineville Heist” will be screened at the event and he will also present his film production workshop entitled “The Action Starts At Cut:

A Humorous Look At The Film Industry”.

Described as an educational and inspiring two-hour interactive performance, the workshop is done in a stand-up format, and offers a hilarious look behind the scenes of working on films in the industry. Topics such as How to Break Into The Film Business; Producing and Directing Tips; Balancing the Business with the Art and Life on Set: War Stories and Movie Stars will be explored and attendees will have an opportunity to ask questions.

“The Pineville Heist” is an action crime mystery that follows a high school teen who stumbles into the aftermath of a bank robbery gone wrong and finds himself locked inside his school trying to keep himself and his teacher alive as one of the psychotic robbers hunts them down. The film was released in 2016 and has been shown at over 30 film festivals worldwide.

“We are thrilled to have someone of Lee’s calibre agree to join us for CayFilm 2017. Aspiring filmmakers can sometimes have an unrealistic idea of what it’s really like to work on the set of a film but Lee’s workshop will definitely clear up any misconceptions. I would encourage anyone with an interest in the film industry to attend this workshop and get the real scoop,” said Festival Director Tony Mark.

Chambers graduated from the Leeds Metropolitan University Film Program in the United Kingdom and has worked on television shows for the BBC and feature films for Miramax. He has spent over a decade teaching producing and directing courses in Ontario, Canada.

Last year’s CayFilm Festival featured dozens of workshops and panels, including the 10 Year Haven Reunion, legendary stuntman Paul Weston, sound mixer from Star Wars Ben Burtt, and Cinestar sisters Zoe and Cecily Saldana.

The CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival takes place from 30 June to 3 July, and includes daily film screenings, question and answer sessions with filmmakers, panel discussions, workshops, an exclusive premiere screening, a celebrity gala event and an awards ceremony. Both VIP and General Admission tickets are on sale starting 1 May 2017.

Film submissions are still open for all categories – Feature Film Narrative, Short Film Narrative, Screenplay, Feature Film Documentary, Short Film Documentary, Animated Film. Environmental Films (all lengths), Underwater Films (all lengths), First Film, Local Cayman Filmmaker and Music Video. Late deadline submissions close on April 14th. Local filmmakers are encouraged to submit their films and scripts to the festival for consideration. About CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival

CayFilm Cayman International Film Festival is an annual multi-day spectacular event designed to create new interest and excitement about the Cayman Islands as a world-class filming destination. Included in the festival will be daily film screenings, question and answer sessions with filmmakers, panel discussions, workshops, exclusive premiere screenings, and two celebrity gala events. It is our vision to open up the Cayman Islands to the film industry around the world whilst opening up the world to Cayman’s young and aspiring filmmakers.

The Festival team is also working to develop the Cayman Media Academy (CMA) under the CayFilm umbrella to educate Cayman’s youth by offering classes and qualifications relating to different career fields within the industry. This will be run throughout the year with the eventual goal of having a full-time degree programme available at our own purpose built facility. Young children will have their own specially designed programmes to inspire and give confidence about their own unique abilities as filmmakers.
