Cayman Islands:APPEAL FOR WITNESSES – FURTHER UPDATE: Fatal accident Thu Morning, 12 April, on ETH Victim named

Further to the below, police are interested in speaking with anyone who may have witnessed Thursday morning’s fatal collision. Officers are particularly interested in speaking with the occupants of a dark-coloured Chevrolet Avalanche that passed the area at the exact time of the collision.

These persons, and any other witnesses, are asked to contact PC 157 Thomas of the Traffic and Roads Policing Unit at 649-6254.  Should PC Thomas be unavailable, any other officers present can also assist. Calls after hours should be routed to the George Town Police Station at 949-4222.

Victim named

Police can now confirm the identity of the victim of the fatal traffic collision which occurred on Thursday, 12 April (see below). She is Susan Simoy Sumalapao, age 56 of the Philippines, who was working in Cayman.

The RCIPS offers condolences to the family of the deceased.

Further Update;

 Fatal Accident This Morning, 12 April, on ETH

Just before 8AM this morning, 12 April, the 9-1-1 Communications Centre dispatched police, fire and emergency personnel to a report of a serious accident involving a Ford Edge SUV and pedestrian on ETH just south of Yacht Drive .  The pedestrian, a woman, was transported to hospital and pronounced dead.

The southbound lanes of ETH were blocked until approximately 1PM today for police to carry out investigations.  Southbound traffic was diverted into northbound lanes until the road was opened.

The victim, age 56, is from the Philippines.  The RCIPS is in the process of contacting the family of the deceased, and requests that the media and community refrain from identifying the victim until the family can be informed.

The RCIPS is also aware of video footage taken at the scene of the victim and other parties involved in the incident; we appeal to the media and community to refrain from circulating such footage, which can be extremely upsetting to family members.

Police, fire and ambulance are on the scene of a fatal accident that has occurred this morning at the roundabout on Esterly Tibbetts in the vicinity of the Yacht Club.  Police are asking that motorists avoid the area if at all possible.

UPDATE

Traffic Update: Fatal Collision This Morning, 12 April, on ETH

Southbound traffic on ETH in the vicinity of the Kimpton has been blocked due to this morning’s fatal collision.   Police are currently diverting southbound traffic into the northbound lane to enable motorists to travel through to George Town.  Police ask for the public’s patience as they manage traffic at the scene.

Motorists who can avoid the area should do so.

At this time police can confirm that the victim in the collision was a FEMALE* pedestrian.
