Cayman Islands DEH working double shifts to remedy collection schedule

Molly Maid

The Department of Environmental Health (DEH) is working double shifts today (Thursday, 3 January 2018) through Saturday, 5 January, to address delays in garbage collection in George Town and the Eastern Districts.

As a result the Department expects to return to its normal garbage collection schedule beginning in West Bay on Monday, 7 January. Officials say additional shifts will be added if need be to meet this goal.

Delays in the schedule arose in late December when three trucks had to be taken out of service. The vehicles are currently awaiting parts to be shipped from overseas. DEH is currently working with the Department of Vehicle and Equipment Services to ensure that repairs take place as quickly as possible.

The Department of Environmental Health apologises to residents in the affected areas. Any persons with garbage collection issues outside of those stated above should make contact with the DEH office by calling 949-6696, or emailing [email protected].
