Just after 4:20PM on Saturday 10 November, police responded to a report of two males on motorbikes riding erratically and doing stunts on a public road, after the 9-1-1 Communications Centre had been alerted by several members of the public.

The riders were headed in the direction of West Bay on the Esterly Tibbetts Highway when police helicopter located them and began following them, signalling for them to stop. The riders did not stop, but separated as they entered West Bay.  One of the riders, who was on a red-and-black motorcycle, was followed by the Air Operations Unit and later intercepted by the patrol officers in cars, signalling for the rider to stop using lights and sirens. The rider continued to and failed to stop for the police and was seen to be riding dangerously and using his mobile phone while doing so.

The rider eventually abandoned the motorcycle in the Boatswain Bay area of West Bay and ran into a nearby store. Officers attended the store and were met with aggression by the rider. As a result, the rider was arrested on suspicion of dangerous driving, failing to stop, driving without being qualified, driving without insurance and resisting arrest.

The motorcycle was also recovered by the police and confirmed to have been stolen in August 2018 and as a result of this, the man was further arrested on suspicion of theft.

The 21-year-old-man was charged with 8 offenses relating to this incident, including:

 

1. Dangerous Driving (manner)
2. Riding without Insurance
3. Riding without being qualified
4. Using a motorcycle without a certificate of roadworthiness
5. Failing to comply with signals given by a constable
6. Failing to display license plate
7. Resisting a police Officer
8. Handling Stolen Goods.

 

The man is expected to be in court today, Tuesday 13 November.
