Taya Lounge (teens and young adults), a division of non-for-profit Cayman Islands Crisis Centre, is hosting an open house for the community on September 12th, 2018 to give prospective participants and families the opportunity to find out more about their services.

Taya Lounge Coordinator, Natalie Baldwin said she is looking forward to opening their doors to new and prospective youth. “Taya Lounge, now it our second year, is a welcoming, non-judgmental safe space for at-risk young people aged 14-21,” Ms Baldwin said.

“We offer a safe place for youth that are experiencing problems at home such as domestic violence including physical, sexual, emotional and psychological abuse, loss of a family member, substance abuse or any other problems where they might just need someone to talk to.”

The Taya programme is an after-school certificate based initiative which aims to give youth the tools to become caring, responsible and productive young adults.  The programme has been developed in Cayman and uses the Maslow Hierarchy of Needs to help teens learn healthy life skills.

The open house is Wednesday September 12 from 5:30-7:30pm at Estella’s Place, Crown Square, 2nd floor (Eastern Avenue). Anyone ages 14-21, parents, teachers and families who would like to tour the facility and find out more about the programme are welcome.

For more information about Taya Lounge or the open house, contact 321-5129, [email protected]or visit www.cicc.ky. Operating hours are Monday – Friday 3pm – 8pm.

TAYA Lounge, founded in February 2017, offers a place of refuge for at-risk teens and adults between the ages of 14-21. This programme is possible thanks to the generous financial support from Hedge Funds Care. In just over a year, TAYA Lounge has more than doubled in size and is currently accommodating 30 teens. TAYA Lounge comprises 10 volunteers fully trained in trauma counselling and the 40 Developmental Assets approach, incorporating life skills, therapeutic concepts, healthy lifestyle and community involvement to establish positive behaviors for the future.
