Cayman Islands book lovers art show continues this week

Poster Comp Charlottes Web Poster Comp Ratburger 2 Poster Comp Wizard of Oz An exhibition of colourful, handcrafted story-boards by local students is on display at the George Town Public Library until 28 March 2015.

Launched at the Book Fair on Saturday 21 March, the show features posters produced for a competition that required young people to write analytically about a book of their choice, while also presenting the information in a visually dynamic way.

Some 34 young book-lovers from eight participating schools submitted entries—all of which are on display.        Students had the opportunity to enter as individuals or as teams. In addition there were two age groups, six to nine years and 10-13 years.

Poster Comp WonderReading charity Literacy Is For Everyone (LIFE) and the Cayman Islands Information Professionals (CIIP), organised the Book Fair and Poster competition. The Public Library hosted the event and sponsored Kindle Fires for the first-place prize winners in each age group. Second place winners earned gift certificates to local book stores.

CIIP President Paul Robinson, who is also the Deputy Director of the Public Library Service, said organisers were very pleased by the quality of the submissions.

“Students put a tremendous amount of thought and care into the stories that they selected, as well as the production of the storyboards. We believe people will be surprised at the outstanding job they have done in bringing written material to life, and we urge everyone to come out to the library this week to see their achievement,” Mr Robinson added.

The George Town Public Library is open Monday to Friday 10.00am -6.00pm and Saturday 10.00am-2:00pm.
