Cayman: Governor announces appointments to Commissions

His Excellency the Governor, Martyn Roper, OBE is pleased to announce various appointments to the Anti-Corruption Commission, Civil Service Appeals Commission, Human Rights Commission, and the Judicial and Legal Service Commission.

Members Sophia Harris and Kadi Pentney have been re-appointed to the Anti-Corruption Commission for a further three years, following the expiration of their initial appointment on 15 August 2019. Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Pentney serve on the Anti-Corruption Commission under the Chairmanship of Richard Coles and along with Members Tim Ridley and Kenrick Hall.

Huw Moses, OBE has been appointed as Chairman of the Civil Service Appeals Commission effective 4 March 2019 for a three year term. Kimbert Solomon and Jennifer Skinner were appointed Members of the Civil Service Appeals Commission, each for a three year term, effective 16 and 20 September 2019 respectively. They join existing Members Stacey Vandevelde, Vicki Hulse, and Shomari Scott.

Dale Crowley has been appointed Chairman of the Human Rights Commission effective 18 September for a three year term. He joins existing Members Reverend Yvette Noble-Bloomfield, Joni Kirkconnell, and Dorothy Scott.

Finally, the tenure of Ormond Williams, as Chairman of the Judicial and Legal Services Commission, has been extended from 1 August 2019 through to 31 December 2019.

“I wish to publicly thank those newly appointed persons, existing Chairs and Members, as well as those who have previously served in these capacities, for their commitment, time, and dedication to enhancing transparency and democracy within our civil service” said His Excellency. “The work of these Commissions is of the utmost importance to the good governance of our Islands and is fully supported by my office” he continued.

In the near future His Excellency intends on appointing further persons to serve as Members on the Civil Service Appeals Commission, Constitutional Commission, Human Rights Commission, and the Judicial and Legal Services Commission. Earlier this year, His Excellency began accepting ongoing expressions of interest from members of the public for consideration of appointment on these and other Commissions supported by the Commissions Secretariat. “I continue to encourage long-standing members of the community to express their interest via the Commissions Secretariat for consideration of appointment in order to support the very important work of these Commissions.”
