Cayman: CUC 2020 PFL/GPFL Weekly Review

CIS and Cayman Prep remain undefeated

With Tropical Storm Eta playing havoc with games last week, primary school football returned this past Saturday, November 14 as the sixth round of games were played in the 2020 CUC Primary Football League (PFL) and the Girls’ Primary Football League (GPFL).

In the CUC PFL, Cayman International School (CIS) and Cayman Prep A remain undefeated and top Group A and Group B respectively in both the Under 9 and Under 11 divisions.

In Group A, CIS continued their winning ways with a 4-0 (respect rule enforced) Under 9 victory and a 4-2 Under 11 win over George Town Primary at the Annex Field.

In other Group A games, it was Sir John A. Cumber 1 vs. St. Ignatius Catholic 1 (Under 9), Sir John A. Cumber Primary 0 vs. St. Ignatius Catholic 0 (Under 11), Savannah Primary 4 vs. Truth For Youth 0 (Under 9; respect rule) and Savannah Primary 2 vs. Truth For Youth 0 (Under 11).

In Group B action, defending Under 9 and Under 11 champions Cayman Prep A continue to ‘steam roll’ opponents as they remain undefeated and on track for yet another championship. In their Under 9 matchup with Theoline L. McCoy Primary, Harry Heinicke scored two goals in the 6th and 14th minutes and Oscar Shakespeare and Nathaniel Lindsay added a goal each in the 10th and 13th
minutes respectively to record a 4-0 (respect rule) win.

In the Under 11 encounter, Michael Godfrey bagged a hat-trick in the 8th, 16th and 17th minutes while Tom Rees scored in the 12th minute to secure a 4-0 win (respect rule) over Theoline L. McCoy’s older boys.

In other Group B games, it was Prospect Primary 5 vs. South Sound Schools 1 (Under 9), Prospect Primary 2 vs. South Sound Schools 3 (Under 11), Red Bay Primary 1 vs. Triple C 2 (Under 9) and Red Bay Primary 2 vs. Triple C 1 (Under 11).

In the CUC GPFL, Theoline L. McCoy Primary secured a 4-0 win over Cayman Prep Red with goals from Jada Dixon-Lam in the 12th, 25th and 32nd minutes and a solitary strike from Leah McLean in the 18th minute. Cayman Prep Red were easily outmatched physically but what they lacked in size, they made-up for in tenacity, grit and a ‘never give-in’ attitude.

The game itself was an excellent advertisement for women’s football as both teams displayed a positive approach to the game with very few fouls being called. There were also some great individual efforts on both sides of the ball.

In other CUC GPFL games, it was Sir John A. Cumber Primary 0 vs. St. Ignatius Catholic 4, Prospect Primary 0 vs. Cayman International School 4 (respect rule), George Town Primary 0 vs. Savannah Primary 2 and Cayman Prep Blue 1 vs. Triple C 0.

The CUC PFL and GPFL leagues continue this Saturday, November 21 with seventh round games at the Annex Field, West Bay Town Hall Field, Dart Field, Theoline L. McCoy Primary, Red Bay Primary and St. Ignatius Catholic School fields.
