Cayman: COVID-19 Update Tuesday, 11 January 2022, 440 NEW Positives [inc 17 in Sister Islands], 132 confirmed Omicron – 1,604 probable

Grand Cayman – Two more persons have died of COVID-19 related causes Public Health Officials reported today.

Also today Chief Medical Officer (Interim) Dr. Autilia Newton reported 440 new cases of COVID-19. This included 10 in travellers and 430 from the community. 

Meanwhile the Public Health Department reported 838 PCR tests were conducted since the last report on Monday, 10 January, of which 249 were positive. One hundred and ninety-one positive lateral flow tests (LFTs) were also reported during this period. 
           

There have been 132 confirmed cases of the Omicron variant in the Cayman Islands to date, meanwhile the number of probable Omicron cases reached 1,604 on Tuesday, 11 January. 

The number of reported active cases stood at 3,559 with 3,309 of those being linked to community transmission. The percentage of the Cayman Islands population who are reported COVID positive currently stands at 5.01 percent. The total number of cases recorded in the Cayman Islands since the start of the pandemic stood at 11,666 at the same time. 

In addition, six COVID-19 patients were hospitalised in the Cayman Islands as at midnight on Tuesday, 11 January. There were three new admissions since the last report.  

There were 17 new cases found in the Sister Islands. To date, there have been 254 total cases recorded in the Sister Islands, with 139 having recovered. Out of the total number of cases in the Sister Islands, 152 were fully vaccinated, eight were partially vaccinated, and 92 were unvaccinated and two were unsure.
          

To date, there have been 59,055 people (83% of 71,106) who had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine. Meanwhile, 57,526 individuals (80%) had completed the two-dose course.

Additionally, 18,285 people (representing 25% of the total population) had received a third or booster dose up to that point.
