As of 8AM Friday, 1 October 2021, the Chief Nursing Officer, Dr. Hazel Brown, reports that 688 COVID-19 tests have been carried out since this was last reported yesterday 30 September 2021.

Of these, there were 13 new positives. The breakdown of the positive results are as follows:

•           Two travellers

In the community there are 11 new positives, including:

•           Six students (three from Prospect Primary School, one from John Gray High School (a direct contact of a Prospect student and already in isolation), one from George Town Primary School and one from Triple “C” School)

•           One preschooler

•           Two adult contacts of students

•           Two community acquired with no known connection to a case

“Though we now have established community spread of the virus, as of this morning the last admission was on 8 September. The inpatient was vaccinated and continues to improve. All the children are doing well, with most of the current cases being asymptomatic. We continue to appeal to the public to take the vaccine if you are able to do so. However, vaccinated or not, please take all measures to protect yourself and our community – wear a mask, sanitise your hands and practice physical distance when interacting outside of your family and household,” said Dr Brown.

There have been 107,039 Covid-19 vaccinations given in total in the Cayman Islands. Of these, 55,200 (78% of 71,106) have had at least one dose of a COVID-19 vaccine and 51,759 (73%) have completed the two-dose course.
