Cayman Brac plane crash – update

Police have named two men killed when a plane crashed on Cayman Brac.

Jose Santos Castaneda Castrejon age 35 years from Mexico and Columbian Fernando Duran Garcia, 56, died following the accident last November.

A spokeswoman for the RCIPS said: “Post Mortem examinations carried out on both men confirmed cause of death to be blunt force trauma. Both bodies have been repatriated to their home countries following consultation with their respective Embassies.

“Some members of the media have been keen to ascertain how much the repatriation of the bodies cost the Cayman Islands. We can confirm that this was done at no cost to the Cayman Islands Government.

“The RCIPS is also in a position to confirm that personal items including some cash were found within the aircraft. As we have previously stated no illegal drugs, guns or other contraband was recovered. Some containers containing a liquid was found onboard the aircraft. The contents of those containers is being analysed.

“The crash is still under investigation and other law enforcement agencies are assisting in the investigation. We are not yet in receipt of the UK investigators report.”
