Cayman Airways changes baggage policy. No free bags

Cayman Airways still offers one of the most generous baggage fee policies in the industry. We offer you the freedom to pack up to 55lbs of your personal belongings in each bag (jet travel only) whereas most airlines limit you to 50lbs per bag before charging excess baggage fees. We gladly accept dive bags, golf bags, surf boards, and other typs of bags as checked luggage. Plus, our low excess and overweight baggage fees make it much more affordbale to travel with extra bags now than ever before.

Notes:

When travelling to Cayman Brac or Little Cayman via the Twin Otter Service; Baggage allowance is 55 lbs per person (combined weight of up to 2 pieces) and only one 15 lb carry-on, any excess will be charged US$0.50 per pound.

Cayman Airways will accept a fragile or perishable item without a limited liability release if it:

Is packaged in the original factory-sealed container
Includes internal protective packing material
Is typically designed for shipping
Items that are not appropriately packaged, and are not assistive devices, will be accepted upon completion of a limited liability release.

In addition to the one carry-on item, you may bring free-of-charge items below:

One small personal article such as a briefcase, purse, day planner, small laptop computer, camera case, compact disk player or similar sized personal entertainment item
Personal aid devices such as wheelchairs, braces, canes, crutches, prosthetic devices and walking sticks, provided passenger is dependent on them
One infant article such as a small collapsible stroller, a diaper bag or a government approved child seat (larger strollers can be checked in the jetway prior to boarding the aircraft)
Restrictions on the quantities of liquids, gels or pastes are:

they must be held in individual containers not exceeding 90ml (3 US ounces)
the containers must be carried in a separate, clear-plastic, zip-top or re-sealable bag
the bag must not exceed 20cm x 20cm (8ins x 8ins) in dimensions
the bag must not exceed one litre capacity
the bag must be completely closed
the items must fit comfortably in the bag
the bag must be x-ray screened separately from other hand baggage at airport security points
before boarding, secondary searches may be performed if you are carrying liquids.
Duty-free goods containing liquids may be carried, provided they are purchased after the security screening point. We advise you to pack any duty-free liquids in your checked baggage where possible.

If you are departing the US or Canada, your duty-free liquids will be delivered to the boarding gate or pick-up point in the secure area in a Sealable Tamper-Evident Bag (STEB).

Excess Baggage

Cayman Airways understands that at times, it may be necessary to travel with an item that exceeds the size or weight limitations or is in excess of the free allowance. Additional charges apply to this type of baggage. Excess baggage charges cannot be waived, and will be collected at the ticket counter. Baggage connecting to other airlines will also be subject to the connecting airline’s excess charges and/or oversize, overweight charges in addition to Cayman Airways charges. Any piece over the free baggage allowance or baggage that exceeds the size and weight limitations will be subject to additional charges. Excess baggage is transported on a space-available basis and will be carried subject to load capacities of the aircraft. Other restrictions may apply. Baggage in excess of 99 pounds or 80 linear inches will not be accepted as checked baggage. Assistive devices, including electric wheelchairs over 99 pounds, will be accepted.
Excessive Baggage Rates All charges are calculated on a one-way basis and collected at the airport ticket counter.

How a Bag is Measured

How a bag is measured by length, width and height.
A bag will be weighed and measured to ensure that it meets the dimensional requirements for shipping. Baggage is measured by length + width + height. The dimensions of each measurement are added together to compose the total number of linear inches/ centimeters. The bag’s thickest or widest part of the length, width and height will be measured.

Special Baggage

The following items, irrespective of their actual dimensions, may be considered one piece and accepted in lieu of one piece of checked baggage whose outside linear.dimensions are 62 inches.

One duffel bag, sea bag or B-4 bag.
One knapsack, backpack or rucksack.
One sleeping bag or bedroll.
Any portable musical instrument (including its container) not exceeding 39 inches in length.
One golf bag containing golf clubs and one pair of golf boots
One set of fishing equipment
One set of shooting equipment
The following items of sporting equipment may be included as checked bags, and when in excess will be assessed by the charges as per the excess bag policy. The charge specified will apply to the items of sporting equipment, whether or not it is presented as a single piece. Sporting equipment must be securely encased to avoid protrusions.

One set of golfing equipment
One set of fishing equipment
One set of scuba diving equipment with the regulator valve completely disconnected from the cylinder.
Quiver
Scuba Diving Equipment – One empty scuba tank, one knife, one mask, One Snorkel, One Scone buoyancy compensator device, fins, wet suit and pressure gauge.

Fishing Equipment – One outfit: Can Include: Two Rods, one Reel, one landing net, one pair of fishing boots (all properly encased) and one fishing tackle box.

Note: No Spear fishing allowed in the Cayman Islands
Golfing Equipment – One golf bag containing no more than 14 clubs, 12 balls and one pair of golfing shoes.

The Following items may also be included as checked baggage for a fee:

Surfboards: USD$95 per board

Windsurfing:Consisting of one windsurfing board/one mask/One boom and sail. Accepted as checked baggage only. USD$75 per board

Ski Equipment: One Outfit to include one pair of Ski bindings/ski boots, ski poles and skis. – Accepted as checked baggage only. USD$40

Bicycles:

A non-motorized touring or racing single seat bicycle will be accepted passenger as a checked bag if:

Bicycle is in a hard-sided case, bike bag or box built for bike transport
Handlebars are fixed sideways
Pedals are removed; or
Pedals and handlebars are wrapped in plastic foam or a similar material
If the bicycle is packed in a container that is less than 55 pounds and less than 62 total linear inches (L + W + H), there is no bicycle service charge, but standard excess charges will apply.

If the bicycle is packed in a container exceeding 62 inches in linear dimensions (L + W + H) but not more than 118 inches and not weighing more than 70 pounds it will be accepted for transport with a bicycle service charge of $50.00 USD each way in additional to any applicable excess charges.

If the bicycle is packed in a container exceeding 62 inches in linear dimensions (L + W + H) but not more than 118 inches and is between 70-98lbs pounds it will be accepted for transport with a bicycle service charge of $50.00 USD each way in additional to any applicable overweight and excess charges.

Bicycles in containers over 99 pounds and over 118 inches in linear dimensions will not be accepted as checked baggage.
