Caribbean-U.S. talks on security start in Dominican Republic

Santo Domingo, Nov 29 (Prensa Latina) The 7th Dialogue on Security Cooperation Caribbean-United States begins today in this capital under the slogan ”For a more effective association and integration for citizen security”.

According to a press release of the Foreign Ministry, Dominican president Danilo Medina will preside the inauguration of the event hosted by the Convention Center of that Ministry.

Accompanying Medina will be Foreign Minister Miguel Vargas; the under-secretary of State for Western Hemisphere Affairs of the United States, Francisco Palmieri and the Deputy Secretary General of the Caribbean Community (Caricom), Douglas Slater, among others.

The event will conclude tomorrow with the participation of 200 representatives of security agencies of Dominican Republic, the United States and member states of Caricom, partners of the Caribbean Basin Security Initiative.

The information details that the agenda includes discussion on collaboration to fight transnational crime, crime prevention, cooperation in maritime security, among other related issues.

The event includes the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dominican Republic and Caricom, for information and intelligence exchange.
