Caribbean Cup 2019: Zecchini, Zharkova, Artnik And Molchanov Set New Freediving World Records

The international freediving competition, Caribbean Cup 2019, has ended on Monday, August 5 with a high competitive level, new national records and four world records, in which it has been the first International outdoor or deep Apnea Competition that It was carried out with judges and endorsement of the two world organizations that regulate this sport: AIDA and CMAS.

On the first day of the event (Friday, August 2), the Italian Alessia Zecchini  managed to set a new CMAS world record in constant weight without fins (CNF), with a mark of -73 meters, surpassing the mark of -70 meters that she shared with the Ukrainian Nataliia Zharkova since October last year and also matching the AIDA world record.

On the second day, Saturday, August 3, the Ukrainian Nataliia Zharkova  implanted CMAS world record in constant weight with bifins (CWTB) when reaching a depth of -91 meters, two meters more than the previous mark of -89 meters was also in its power since the 2018 world championship.

On Sunday, August 4, Alenka Artnik  of Slovenia broke the CMAS world record in the constant weight with monofin (CWT) with -111 meters registered, surpassing the previous -107 meters Zecchini record of 2018.

However, this Monday, August 5, on the last day of competition, Zecchini again regained the world record in this mode, descending one more meter, to -112 meters with his monofin.

On the male side and for AIDA records, the Russian Alexey Molchanov  managed to implement the world record in the constant weight with bifins (CWTB) with a depth of -110 meters, in a mode that AIDA began to recognize this year 2019.

Finally, the new apnea world records registered in the Caribbean Cup were:

Alessia Zecchini  (Italy): Constant Weight No Fins CMAS: -73 meters
Nataliia Zharkova  (Ukraine): Constant Weight with Bifins CMAS: – 91 meters
Alessia Zecchini  (Italy): Constant Weight with Monofin CMAS: -112 meters
Alexey Molchanov  (Russia): Constant Weight with Bifins AIDA: – 110 meters

These new world apnea records mark an interesting preamble of what will be the 4th CMAS Outdoor Apnea World Championship whose competitions begin this Wednesday, August 7, 2019 also in Roatán, Honduras and the AIDA Depth Individual World Apnea Championship that will take place in Nice, France from September 3 to 14, 2019.
