More Canadians are coming to the Cayman Islands, according to the latest data from the Cayman Islands Department of Tourism.

Last year (2018) surpassed all previous years of recorded visitation with a record 2,384,058 passengers including 2006, which previously held the record for the highest number of total visitors in a calendar year. 

This statistic represents an 11.05 percent increase over the same period in 2017(237,211 additional persons). 

Last year also saw an increase in stayover visitation with 463,001 guests, representing an increase of 10.66 per cent (44,598 additional visitors). 

More airlift, more visitors

Just a four-hour flight away from Toronto, one of the leading contributing factors to the increase of visitors to the Cayman Islands is the increased airlift the islands have received.

2018 saw a 7.46 per cent increase in Canadian arrivals with 26,603 Canadian travellers descending on the destination. What’s more, 2018 saw five months of record Canadian visitation in January, May, September, November and December.

The increase in demand for Canadian travel to Cayman has led to stable increases in Air Canada’s capacity to the destination while WestJet increased flight frequency as well.

Air Canada currently flies year-round, non-stop from Toronto to grand Cayman five times a week, until April 2019.

WestJet currently flies year-round, non-stop from Toronto to Grand Cayman three times a week until April 27, 2019. Moreover, both airlines will increase the frequency of their non-stop summer flights from Toronto to Grand Cayman to twice a week from May to October 2019.
