Crackdown on fast fashion giant, Shein, for Uyghur forced labor
Advocates are calling for Shein to be shut down after testing suggested the company sources cotton from the Uyghur Region, where forced labor is endemic. Due to a legal loophole, many of the 2.7 million Shein packages that arrive daily in the U.S. escape scrutiny from Customs and Border Protection. Freedom United is calling for companies to cut ties with the Uyghur forced labor system. Read more.

Migrant domestic workers rise up against exploitation in Hong Kong
As a migrant domestic worker in Hong Kong, Shiela Tebia Bonifacio was subjected to serious exploitation, including sexual abuse. Now she is one of the many activists fighting for change so that other women don’t have to endure the same suffering. The Freedom United community is urging governments worldwide to better protect migrant domestic workers from modern slavery. Read more…

Children trafficked into illegal orphanages in Nepal
An investigation has uncovered how children in Nepal are being trafficked into illegal orphanages where they are uncared for and often forced to work or beg. We’re asking volunteer tour operators to stop offering volunteer placements in orphanages and help break the cycle of exploitation. Read more…
