Camana Bay expands weekly market

Jennett_Powell_LRCamana Bay, Grand Cayman): Camana Bay’s popular weekly market is growing with a new location and an expanded showcase of all that is grown and made  in Cayman.  The enhanced Farmers & Artisans Market opens Wednesday 12 March to coincide with the peak of the harvest season and the busy tourism period through Easter.

“It has been  wonderful to watch the evolution of our weekly market,” said Ken Hydes, Vice President of Special Projects for Dart Realty (Cayman) Ltd. “It began  in summer  2010 with a handful of local farmers and quickly flourished into a bustling community event with a diverse group of vendors  and loyal customers. We’re adding a host of artisanal products that appeal to visitors looking to take home a bit of Cayman craftsmanship, and this relocation to the heart of the Town Centre also allows us to expand  the offerings to include entertainment and cultural experiences.”

On Wednesdays beginning at noon, fresh produce and farm goods will be offered in Cassia Court, while local artisans and purveyors will display and sell specialty foods and handmade products along The Paseo. Shoppers will be able to stock up on everything from seasonal fruits and vegetables to teas,  jellies, seasonings and more. Unique gift items including jewellery, skincare products, crafts and original art will also be available for purchase.

From 3pm, the Farmers & Artisans Market will be infused with entertainment, ranging from live music to artists creating their craft in real time. Cayman’s heritage will be celebrated with cultural demonstrations of thatch  weaving, rope making, conch  shell blowing, soldier crab racing and traditional games.

The festivities will continue into the evening with The Flavour Tour, a progressive dinner featuring local ingredients presented in the signature styles of Abacus,  Michael’s Genuine Food & Drink, Mizu and Ortanique. From 6-8pm,  guests will enjoy four small course  plates complemented by feature cocktail or wine pairings, ending the night with a taste  of one of the 80 vintages at West Indies Wine Company.  The cost  is CI$65 per person  including gratuities and tickets are now available at West Indies Wine Company.

Camana Bay’s Farmers & Artisans Market is a one-stop opportunity to discover an array of products and experiences found only in Cayman.  For more information, visit camanabay.com.
