C4CCoalition for Cayman supports UK request to send official observers to monitor May 22 Elections

C4C: “We must do everything we can to protect our democracy and the integrity of our elections”

Grand Cayman – February 28, 2013 – Coalition for Cayman (C4C) today called on new Premier Juliana O’Connor-Connolly and Elections Supervisor Kearney S. Gomez to allow official observers to monitor the Cayman Islands’ May 22 general elections. Mark Simmonds, the Parliamentary Under Secretary of State at the Foreign & Commonwealth Office, made the official appeal to the new Cayman Islands Premier at a meeting in London early this year.

“Protecting our reputation on the international stage as both a strong democracy and a trusted financial center begins with reinforcing our reputation for holding free and fair elections, and for this reason we urge current Premier O’Connor-Connolly to honour the request by the UK and allow observers to monitor the May 22 elections for fairness and accuracy,” said Coalition for Cayman.
