Busy football season closes with annual awards ceremony

10380885_10152184978947947_1137693958340626707_n 10393169_10152184978467947_5139065810220655399_n 10456820_10152184978292947_575273673400954266_nThe Executive Committee of the Cayman Islands Football Association presented awards to players, coaches, and officials at their annual awards ceremony at the Marriott Grand Cayman on Thursday, 5 June, 2014. The ceremony honoured members of the football family who participate in the association’s ten (10) leagues for both men and women in all age categories.

Award categories included, for each league: league champions and runners up; Fair Play Awards; Coach of the Year; Goal Keeper of the Year; Defender of the Year; Player of the Year; and the Golden Boot, awarded to the league’s top scorers. Awards were also given for Assistant Referee of the Year and Referee of the Year. Special recognition was granted to Ms. Shanelle Frederick for her outstanding performance in the women’s league, having scored 52 goals over the past four years.

Mr. Bruce Blake, CIFA’s First Vice President, commended the association on a successful season and noted that more games were played across all leagues this season than at any other time in the association’s history. Mr. Blake also highlighted the association’s commitment to hosting international events and introduced the Chairwoman of the upcoming CONCACAF Girls’ Under 15 Championship, Ms. Sharon Roulstone, and Cayman’s own Girls’ Under 15 National Team and management staff. He gave further commendation to outgoing staff, Mr. Damion Allen and Mr. Marcos Tinoco, who have been instrumental in building capacity at the association.

Over four hundred and fifty players, officials, and guests packed the standing room only event, including members of the CIFA Executive Committee and Minister of Sport, the Honourable Osbourne Bodden.
