Breeze 5K Walk/Run

Record setting Cayman Islands Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run

George Town, GC, : After a highly successful 2016, the Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run has shown little sign of slowing down, with a record setting number of participants taking part in the 11th Annual event.

More than 250 Runners and Walkers, comprised of students to senior citizens from all walks of life took part in the annual charity event on Saturday, November 4th at Smith’s Barcadere. The community event has become a staple on the regular 5K circuit.

Radio Cayman, Deputy Director Paulette Connolly-Baily said “After a stormy night of rain, the skies cleared and Breeze Fusion turned out to be one of the most successful events to date. I was delighted to see the amount of participants, especially the school children and their parents, teachers, guardians, even pooches. The corporate support and community support was awesome. Thanks to our Staff, Race Caribbean, CaymanActive.com and volunteers including RCIPS, Red Cross, Leos, Lions and other individuals who worked hard to make the event go smoothly. We look forward to next year’s event”.

The event organized by Radio Cayman and Breeze FM since inception in 2007, has supported the National Council for Voluntary Organizations (NCVO), an independent, non-profit, charitable organization which engages in projects to meet the ever-growing needs of the community. Funds from this year’s Grand Cayman race also benefitted the Special Needs Foundation. The Special Needs Foundation is a non-profit organization of parents, educators and professionals committed to supporting children with a range of special needs across the Cayman Islands.

The 11th Annual event was made possibly thanks to the generous support of the corporate community, with Yello, Reflections, Cayman National, Roma United S.C., Sign Solutions, Net Clues, Green Machine, Caribbean Alliance and Rush Energy Drink sponsoring this year’s Walk/Run.

Yello, Marketing Manager, Melanie Shambaugh stated afterwards “Yello is thrilled to support, helping to bring the community together to raise proceeds for NCVO and Special Needs Foundation. Plus, it is a wonderful activity the whole family can enjoy. Congratulations to all the walkers and runners! We look forward to participating in the 5k Walk/Run on Cayman Brac on November 25th.”

In the community spirit surrounding the Breeze Fusion 5K Walk/Run, a number of MLAs pledged their support of students from their respective district schools, including the Hon. Moses Kirkconnell, Hon. McKeeva Bush, Hon. Dwayne Seymour, Mr. Kenneth Bryan, Mr. Anthony Eden, Mr. Arden McLean, Mr. Ezzard Miller, and Mr. Austin Harris.
