Both Presidents of Dutch Parliament visit the Caribbean part of the Kingdom

THE HAGUE – The Presidents of the First and Second Chamber of the Dutch Parliament, Ankie Broekers-Knol and Khadija Arib, will visit the Caribbean part of the Kingdom from January 6 to 13, 2018.

They will visit the Windward Islands in particular to take note of the devastation caused by the hurricanes Irma and Maria and the activities carried out in the context of reconstruction.

The official visit starts on January 6 in St. Maarten. This is where the Presidents of the Chambers are welcomed by President of the St. Maarten Parliament, Sarah Wescot-Williams. Sarah Wescott-Williams accompanies the Presidents during a tour of the island. Also in the morning of January 8, the Chamber Presidents will visit, among others, Governor Eugène Holiday and the Wit Gele Kruis (White Yellow Cross).

On January 7, the delegation will be in St. Eustatius and will be received by Acting Lieutenant Governor Julian Woodley. The program includes meetings with the Executive Council and the Island Council and a tour of the island. During this tour, the Presidents will also visit various reconstruction locations, so that they get an idea of the impact of hurricanes Irma and Maria.

In the afternoon of January 8, the Chamber Presidents arrive in Saba. They are received by Lieutenant Governor Jonathan Johnson. Then they will meet the Executive Council and the Island Council. On January 9, there will also be a tour of the island and discussions with representatives of civil society organizations.

The delegation will visit Curaçao on 10 January. The Presidents will then meet Governor Lucille George-Wout and the Council of Ministers, among others, and are received by a representative of the Parliament of Curaçao. Later they will visit the port area and there is a tour around the island.

On January 11, the President of the Chambers will be on Bonaire, where they are received by Lieutenant Governor Edison Rijna. After a meeting with the Lieutenant Governor and the Executive Council and the Island Council, a tour of the island follows.

On January 12, the Presidents arrive in Aruba. They are received by Governor Alfonso Boekhoudt. Later they will meet the President of Parliament Juan Edberto Thijsen and the faction leaders. The visit ends with a tour around the island.
