Blasting through your Bitcoin

Do you own a Bitcoin or two? Lucky you – especially if you got them before all the crazy market fluctuations of 2017. Why haven’t you used them yet?

Is it because they seem like a pirate hoard to be fiercely guarded? That’s fine – stick on your eyepatch and practice your best pirate ditties. (Playing a pirate is a hoot, isn’t it?)

Or maybe the reason is more that it is hard to find places to spend bitcoins. There is a serious misconception out there that Bitcoin is an obscure currency, not accepted by many. And, maybe even as short a time ago as two years, this was true.

Things have changed a lot since then. The currency has been catapulted into the limelight and is now accepted by a range of companies. You can use it to pay for your accommodation on Expedia or get yourself a Subway voucher.

What was once an obscure little currency with no real world value has evolved into something a lot more valuable. Many big retailers, like Overstock and Newegg, have been quick to jump on the bandwagon

So, instead of your coins sitting idly in your account, you could put them towards paying for your first house or furniture. Want something a little more out of this world? Why not sign up at Virgin Galactic and use your bitcoins to pay for that trip off the planet?

In addition to retailers who accept Bitcoin directly, there are those that will accept it through an intermediary. This usually means that you need to buy vouchers for these retailers using your bitcoins, so it is a bit of a long way around.

But, even so, it is better than paying a bunch of trading fees or accepting a bad exchange rate just because you want the money.
