Between Friends
By Carol-Ann Rudy

This poem was inspired by me to write when I saw a rare Blue Iguana in a Palm Tree before I knew it was endemic to the Cayman Islands. I hope you enjoy it.
BETWEEN FRIENDS
Palm fronds move scissor-like,
Their cutting blades slicing the light of day
hanging into the sky in slow motion
scribbling circles against the blue,
telling and re-telling stories that they whisper, over & over again.
I chose to take the longer path this day
to hear their tales,
down stairs that wound around and around
trailing through leafy arcades
and seeing other possibilities in the spectrum of all green things;
foot-long lizard with pale aqua spots,
mate of indigo and brilliant blue nearby,
tapestry of green and gold, with no frown upon the face of this summer’s day
only a sigh, from this breath drawn at once, together, not to be forgotten.
