Belarus’s 140 Repair Plant Joint Stock Company (JSC) has received a contract to supply new Cayman armored vehicles to an undisclosed African customer, said source in the country`s State Military Industrial Committee on 16 July.

According to the army-guide.com, Belarus is now delivering the first Cayman armored vehicles, which the company describes as a mobile armoured transport vehicle (MATV), to an African state.

The vehicle is intended for participating in reconnaissance, assault support, and escort missions, carrying out peacekeeping and police operations, conducting actions in emergency situations.

Dimensions of the Cayman is 6m x 2.82m x 2.07m and it has a gross weight of 7,000 kg. The wheel track is 2,400 mm and wheelbase is 3,100 mm.

The forward hull of the vehicle offers STANAG 4569 Level 2 protection. It protects the crew from 7.62mm rounds fired from a sniper rifle, while the sides offer protection against 5.45mm and 7.62mm rounds. The armour is further reinforced with removable spall liner for providing improved protection against ballistic threats.

Cayman can accommodate a crew of six, who can enter and exit through either the side door or two roof hatches above the driver and passenger seats.

The source in Belarus’s State Military Industrial Committee also added that country`s armed forces had adopted the first Cayman vehicle last year.
