Beijing 2022 Main Media Centre opens with one month to go

International Olympic Committee

04 Jan 2022 – With only one month until the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 begin, the Main Media Centre (MMC) opened today. The 98,000-square-metre facility will welcome media from across the world who will report on all of the action from this year’s Games.

The MMC incorporates both the Main Press Centre (MPC) and the International Broadcast Centre (IBC). It is located in the newly built pavilion of the China National Convention Centre on Beijing’s Olympic Green. The venue is in close proximity to the National Stadium, National Aquatics Centre (the “Ice Cube”) and the National Indoor Stadium, three legacy venues from the 2008 Olympic Games that will host the Ceremonies and ice sports competitions during the 2022 Games.

The MMC provides members of the media with a comfortable and secure working environment from which they can report on all the news from the Games. The venue will be the main hub for press conferences, media work areas and the photo service centre, and will serve as the headquarters for the main international news organisations.

The MPC can accommodate around 2,800 accredited press from around the globe. It will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. until 22 January as the local Organising Committee finalises the set-up of all facilities. Then, from 24 January until 20 February, it will be open 24 hours a day.

The IBC will serve as the main hub for Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS) and Rights-Holding Broadcasters (RHBs). It will host thousands of broadcast personnel during the Games, with technicians working to provide the studios and systems that will deliver the inspiring images of the athletes during their competitions to the world.

As with all venues, a comprehensive set of COVID-19 countermeasures, outlined in the Beijing 2022 Playbooks, have been implemented to ensure the safety of all those involved in this year’s Games.

The Olympic Winter Games will take place between 4 and 20 February 2022, and the Paralympic Winter Games will be held from 4 until 13 March 2022.
