BAHAMAS – Small plane destroyed in fire

From Caribbean News Service

The authorities have launched an investigation following a fire that destroyed a small plane at the Linden Pindling International Airport.

The Tribune reports that a small plane operated by Golden Wings Charter was destroyed in a fire at the Golden Wings’ maintenance bay on Wednesday.

The General Manager of the Aviation Authority, Milo Butler III said that on hearing of the fire, response units were dispatched.

He said it’s understood that the fire occurred during “routine maintenance”.

“The fire was extinguished using foam, no injuries or fatalities were reported on the ground,” he said.

Meanwhile, the owner and operator of the charter company, Cameron Roach said the plane was in for scheduled maintenance when the fuel tank ignited without warning.

“We are looking into it and expect to have some clear answers soon. The insurers and manufacturers are expected in town to aid us in this regard, so we would be able to say more at the point,” Roach told the Tribune.

A full report on the incident should be concluded and handed over to the Bahamas Civil Aviation Authority by the end of the week.
