(PRESS RELEASE) – Crime and violence are increasing in the Caribbean at alarming levels.

Figures or murders for leading Caribbean nations are staggering and the many individuals who are injured tell a frightening tale of the unwillingness of people to report matters to police, challenges within the police forces to respond to cases of domestic violence with alacrity and the inability for people to resolve conflict in a non-threatening manner.

Secretary General of the CCCP, Ms. Nichole Murray says, “Victims to live have gone unnoticed, but many live with disabilities and dysfunctions. Those involved in gun violence have been labelled gangsters and drug runners or innocent bystanders.

To the CCCP the labels do not matter but solutions. Whilst there have been many suggestions that something needs to be done about but few recommendations have been forthcoming with practical solutions that address the problem directly.”

It is against this background, therefore, that the Steering Committee of the Caribbean Congress of Community Practitioners is currently in Kingstown, St. Vincent to build awareness ahead of the Third annual congress of community practitioners under the Theme “The Impact of Volunteerism on Caribbean Community Crime and Violence” at the Kingstown Wesleyan Holiness Church Hall next to Victoria Park, on Thursday, August 17th.

This conference is open to all members of society, especially Social Workers, volunteers, business owners, churches Civil Society groups and organisations that actively work in any Caribbean community that is affected by crime and violence. Victims and relatives of victims are especially invited to this day-long conference.

All OECS nationals who are members of community groups or who contribute to communities are also welcome to attend.

Organisers will be preparing an action plan to be replicated throughout the member states of the CCCP and a recommendation for All Attorneys General.
