A King is Coming to Town

DSC_0002webAfter the spectacular Cantata “ The Christmas Song” was presented by the Savannah United Church choir on Sunday 8th, I did not think that there could be anything else as enjoyable.  Well, I was wrong.

On Sunday 15th, the Church was again filled to capacity as the Savannah Youth presented their Christmas Musical “A King is Coming to Town”. The “stars” of the performance ranged in age from about five years old to about 13 years. They had been practicing for months and it showed in their performance.

Congratulations to Kimia Hemmings who directed this musical theatre event, for bDSC_0020webeing able to organise 30+ children.  Her enthusiasm was contagious and the children responded with great energy in their dancing, singing and acting. Kimia was ably assisted by a huge behind the scenes production team.

The story:

A poster appeDSC_0057webars on the street of the town called Rumour’s Mill stating that a King is Coming to Town. A reporter and cameraman are sent to interview people to find out who this King is.  As the town’s name implies, the rumours start flying.  The first is that the King of Rock and Roll is coming – enter Daniel Campbell as Elvis in full costume.  When that turns out to be false, the rumours turn to King Tut exhibit coming to the local museum.  Again the rumour is proved wrong and we turn to the King of the Jungle.  Finally, everyone realises that the King is the baby born in the manger.

Aliyah Christian, Yuliana Carter, Daniel Campbell, Jelani Hanson, Raeanne Stewart, Iain Hemmings, and Serena Robinson were outstanding in the lead roles which helped to bring out the best performance from all the other children.
