Over 290 Students Pay Tribute to Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II

Students from 38 private and public schools across Grand Cayman from West Bay to East End and Cayman Brac gathered in commemorative activities at various locations to pay tribute to honour the life of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Nine students from each school representing each decade of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II’s life from various schools across Cayman such as Sir John A Cumber Primary School, George Town Primary School, Prospect  Primary School, East End Primary School, Clifton Hunter High School, Cayman International School, Grace Christian Academy, Calvary Baptist Christian Academy, Cayman Academy, Footsteps, Island Montessori, Cayman Prep and High School Cayman Learning Centre among many others gathered together at public tribute locations such as Government House, Government Administration Building.

In addition, various other students also gathered at the Pines Retirement Home and eastern districts schools gathered at Queen’s Highway which was formally opened by Her Late Majesty the Queen during her visit to the Cayman Islands in February 1983.

Today, in Cayman Brac Students from West End Primary School, Creek and Spot Bay Primary Schools (Infants and Juniors) and Layman Scott High School will gather to pay tributes to Her Late Majesty at District Administration Building (Cayman Brac) and the Cayman Brac Day Care Centre.

Speaking to tributes across the schools Minister of Education, Hon. Juliana O’Connor-Connolly noted “Queen Elizabeth II has been a strong and constant figure in our lives for many years. I am truly saddened by her passing and proud that our students had the opportunity to pay tribute to the late monarch.”

Cayman Islands Mosquito Research and Control Unit, and Royal Cayman Islands Police Service Air Operations Unit performed aerial salutes in honour of Her Late Majesty by participating in a ceremonial flyover at all locations during floral tributes.

Floral tributes can be left on the steps of the Government Administration Building and the front gates of the Government House. The public should note that once flowers wither they will be removed.

Condolence books are also open for members of the public to sign at the Government Administration Building on Grand Cayman and District Administration on Cayman Brac.

The people of the Cayman Islands join others around the world in mourning the loss of Her Late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.
