Marine Unit Rescues Two Men Aboard Overturned Vessel near North West Point

fo9lwm20w5wtAround 4:15AM Saturday morning, 26 September, the Joint Marine Unit (JMU) responded to a call of a person in distress aboard a boat about five miles offshore from North West Point. Just before the call was lost, the caller was able to state that the boat had encountered engine difficulties and had started taking on water. The Niven D of the JMU fleet was deployed, and around 5:00AM flares from a boat were seen. Marine officers reached the capsized 38ft Panga boat at 5:15AM and brought the two men sitting on the boat’s hull, ages 26 and 32, from Bodden Town, aboard. Neither required medical attention. The police helicopter also responded to the scene and made checks of the area.

A 55-gallon drum of fuel appeared to have spilled into the water when the boat capsized. Harbor Patrol towed the boat to shore later in the morning.
