2025 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition: Review of Playoffs

St. Ignatius Catholic and Island Primary A secure cricket championships
Unbridled excitement was the name of the game this past week at the Smith Road Oval as the hallowed
cricket ground played host to the 2025 Inter-Primary Cricket Competition boy’s and girl’s playoffs.
Wednesday, June 18 saw semi-final play where the young men from Sir John A. Cumber Primary, runners-up in Zone B, defeated Zone A winners Prospect Primary 64 runs to 49 runs. In the second semi-final, Zone B winners St. Ignatius Catholic got past Zone A runners-up Island Primary A 45 runs to 27 runs.

St. Ignatius Catholic (purple) won the 2025 Boy’s Inter-Primary Cricket Competition.
In the girl’s division, Zone A winners Island Primary A defeated Zone B runners-up and 2024 league and rally champions Cayman Prep A 56 runs to 49 runs. The second semi-final saw Zone B winners Cayman
International School (CIS) beat Zone A runners-up Theoline L. McCoy Primary 66 runs to 65 runs.
With both the finals and third-place games set for Friday, June 20, competing schools readied their starting ine-ups for what would be a truly exciting day of primary school cricket.
First up on the schedule were the girl’s final and third-place games. Due to unavoidable circumstances,
Theoline L. McCoy Primary was not able to field a team on the day so defending champions Cayman Prep A claimed third place via a forfeit.

Island Primary A (green) won the 2025 Girl’s Inter-Primary Cricket Competition.
In the final, Island Primary A secured their very first girl’s Inter-Primary Cricket championship after an
enthralling victory over CIS 46 runs to 45 runs.
In the boy’s division, Island Primary A got past Prospect Primary 67 runs to 61 runs to claim third place.
In the boy’s final, defending 2024 rally champions and league runners-up St. Ignatius Catholic finally got over the ‘hump’ to claim the 2025 Inter-Primary Cricket championship by outlasting a solid and ever-improving SirJohn A. Cumber Primary outfit 75 runs to 71 runs.
Congratulations to the 2025 Inter-Primary Cricket champions Island Primary A (girls) and St. Ignatius Catholic (boys) and to the third and fourth place finishers.
Special thanks to the many umpires and organisers who ensured all games were properly officiated and coordinated and to the many coaches and volunteers who seldom get enough praise for the long hours spent with their student athletes. Thanks to the parents who attended the games and supported their
kids throughout the season.
The Inter-Primary Cricket Competition is organised and coordinated by the Department of Education
Services, the Department of Sports and the Cayman Islands Cricket Association and sponsored in part by Caribbean Utilities Company, Ltd. (CUC).
Organisers anticipate the 2026 season to be just as exciting.
