2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League Matchday Update – Wednesday, November 4

2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League Matchday Update
Wednesday, November 4, 2020

As part of Concacaf’s protocols to resume the 2020 Scotiabank Concacaf League (SCL), extensive COVID-19 testing is carried out on each club’s players and traveling staff, and all match officials, prior to each match.

LD Alajuelense (CRC) vs Cibao FC (DOM)
In the case of this SCL preliminary round match, LD Alajuelense communicated publicly on October 6 that eleven of their players had tested positive for COVID-19. The club informed Concacaf that those players isolated for 14 days, followed all relevant protocols, and have subsequently resumed training.

Concacaf regulations require any player(s) who has previously tested positive for COVID-19 to produce two consecutive negative test results in order to take part in a Confederation competition. In this case, three (3) of the LD Alajuelense players who previously tested positive have met this requirement and are eligible to compete in tonight’s game. No new positive cases emerged from the testing of the LD Alajuelense delegation ahead of this match.

Two Cibao FC players have tested positive for COVID-19. The individuals concerned have been advised of all Concacaf protocols and laws and regulations imposed by local authorities. All other Cibao FC players, traveling staff, and the match officials, have tested negative for COVID-19.

The match will be played as scheduled tonight at 6:00 pm ET.

Deportivo Saprissa (CRC) vs CSD Municipal (GUA)
In the case of the SCL round of 16 match between Deportivo Saprissa and CSD Municipal, one member of the Deportivo Saprissa staff has tested positive for COVID-19. The individual concerned has been isolated from the team and has been advised of all Concacaf protocols and laws and regulations imposed by local authorities. All other members of the Deportivo Saprissa delegation, and the match officials, tested negative.

In the case of CSD Municipal, three players who previously tested positive several weeks ago again tested positive for COVID-19. Additionally, a further three members of the Municipal delegation tested positive for the first time in the Concacaf pre-game testing. As a precaution, Concacaf has provisionally rearranged this match for tomorrow (Thursday, November 5) to allow for another round of testing to take place.

Concacaf will provide a further update on this match in due course.

Alianza FC (SLV) vs FC Motagua (HON)
In the case of this SCL round of 16 match, Alianza FC communicated to Concacaf that five (5) of its players tested positive for COVID-19 last week through their own club testing regime. The five were isolated and Concacaf has been advised they are all following protocols and local regulations. They were not included in the delegation for this SCL match.

In the Concacaf pre-game testing of Alianza’s delegation for this match, no new positive cases were established, with all players and members of staff testing negative for COVID-19.

Additionally, all FC Motagua players and staff, and the match officials, have tested negative for COVID-19.

The match will be played as scheduled tonight at 10:15 pm ET.

CS Herediano (CRC) vs Real Esteli (NCA) – scheduled for Thursday, November 5, 2020
In the case of this SCL round of 16 match, multiple members of both teams’ delegations have tested positive for COVID-19 and there are inconsistencies with some test results. In these circumstances, Concacaf has taken a precautionary decision to postpone this match.

Concacaf will consider rescheduling options and provide further details in due course.
