US’s Obama gives the Arab Spring countries a chance after diplomatic post attacks

By Mohamed Zayed, iNews Cayman special correspondent

The killings of the US’s ambassador to Libya and three of his staff over a US made video insulting the Prophet Mohamed reminds the whole world of the crisis of 52 US nationals held in the American embassy in Tehran for 444 days from November 4, 1979, to January 20, 1981. This crisis had dashed the hope of former US Democratic President Jimmy Carter to seek another term in office. In addition, it was the first killing of US diplomats in the last three decades. As the American presidential election is decided next November this year. But the Arab world were shocked as they was seeing protesters attacking  embassies in Egypt, Libya, Tunisia and Yemen, they wondering what the Americans could do to take revenge. But the Obama’s administration had another vision for the issue.

It is senseless to attack these countries or impose sanctions on their economies, they suffer from economic crises and insecurity across the four countries. Though Mr. Obama  warned Egypt of any further attacks on the American embassy in Cairo, it was directed toward the US public and diplomats operating across the global. He said, “Egypt is not an ally nor enemy.” The US president meant that the American government is ready to turn the page and starts a new phase. At the beginning of the crisis, the Egyptian government responded to the attack of the US embassy coldly, that made its American counterpart furious;  president Morse had declared that Egypt is the only responsible for the safety and security of foreign missions, 2 days later the embassy has started to work as usual for Americans and Egyptians.

As for Libya was concerned, US Secretary of State Hilary Clinton has admitted that the attack of the Libyan consulate in Benghazi was a terrorist attack, thus easing pressure on the Libyan government. US has deployed two military ships off the Libyan coast and marines guarding the US interests and a operation centre to help the Libyan security services when necessary. The government appreciated the apology from the Tunisian and Yemeni governments.

Following the uprisings that toppled the autocratic rulers in the aforementioned countries,  the Salafi  and extremist groups have jumped to the political stage. As the governments in these countries are moderate, the international community must help them militarily, economically and politically. Because keeping away from the Arab Spring governments would give those extremists the pretext to build a home front to propagate their own fanatic ideas and stereotypes among the moderate Muslims, it would lead up to four Pakistans in the Middle East, recruiting Jihadists to Gaza, Iraq, Pakistan and other places across the world. And this turmoil would affect badly oil production, Israel’s security, the Red Sea and Mediterranean Sea.

What has motivated Obama to take this attitude is that his Republican  presidential candidate Mitt Romny seems immature politically especially the foreign affairs, he always criticizes President Obama’s over US relations with Iran, Russia and China, but he doesn’t present a vision or framework to settle the tense relations with those countries.

A video posted on the internet has showed Mr. Romny describing half the Americans as loving to live the life of victims, he added that he would ignore those people . In this video, he thinks that Israeli-Palestinian issue is unsolvable because of the Palestinian terrorist groups. Romny’s campaign is experiencing poor management and indecision .

Latest polls have pointed out that Mr. Obama still tops the surveys on economic, political and medical fields.
