US Coast Guard arrests three for cocaine seizure in Caribbean Sea

From RJR News

The US Coast Guard has nabbed three drug smugglers and seized millions of dollars worth of cocaine in the Caribbean Sea.

It has transferred the smugglers and the cocaine, which is valued at about US$3.3 million, to US Drug Enforcement Administration agents.

This follows last week’s seizure of a go-fast vessel off Loiza, Puerto Rico.

The Coast Guard said it was the result of ongoing multi-agency law enforcement efforts.

Three men – two Dominican Republic nationals and a French citizen – who were apprehended are facing US federal prosecution in Puerto Rico.

While on a routine patrol off Puerto Rico’s northern coast, the US Coast Guard said the crew of an aircraft detected a suspicious 35-foot go-fast vessel without navigational lights, about 50 nautical miles north of Puerto Rico.

The Coast Guard intercepted the vessel.

The crew later found 112 kilograms of cocaine in the water.
