Actor and playwright David Heron to receive Caribbean Life Impact Award

From Broadway World

Award winning actor and playwright David Heron will be honored in New York next week with the Caribbean Life Impact Award in recognition of his career achievements in Entertainment and Entrepreneurship.

The Jamaican born Heron will be feted along with other 2018 awardees at the gala awards event to be held at the Paradise Catering Hall in Brooklyn next Thursday November 15.

Caribbean Life is one of the largest and most widely read Caribbean newspapers in the Eastern United States. The Caribbean Life Impact Award is presented annually by the publication to individuals in New York of Caribbean descent who have made significant contributions to their fields of endeavor including Arts and Entertainment, Business, Medicine, Community Service and Social Work.

In a career that spans over two decades, Heron has worked extensively in Jamaica, the USA and throughout the diaspora as a Producer, Actor and Playwright.

The six plays he has authored – Ecstasy, Intermission, Against His Will, Love and Marriage and New York City, Redemption and 4Play have been performed on three continents to thousands of patrons, achieving both critical and commercial success, winning him a slew of honors and awards.

As an actor, he has appeared Off Broadway, regionally and internationally in such acclaimed productions as the world premieres of Marley The Musical ( Baltimore Centerstage) and Robinson Crusoe ( Orlando Shakespeare Theater), as well as The Emperor Jones ( Irish Repertory Theater) Moon on a Rainbow Shawl (New Federal Theater) , Pecong (National Black Theater) and his own play Love and Marriage and New York City which played at the Billie Holiday Theatre in Brooklyn as well as in Toronto and Great Britain where it toured nationally on two occasions.

He has also emerged as one of a select few Caribbean born actors performing the works of Shakespeare at the highest level throughout the USA, and his resume includes some of the writers best known works such as Hamlet, Othello, Romeo and Juliet, Antony and Cleopatra, The Tempest, Coriolanus and The Winter’s Tale.

Additionally, he is now CEO of his own Entertainment and Public Relations Company, Sure Thing PR, which provides publicity, talent management and career coaching services for other entertainment professionals.

Heron has already been honored with five International Theatre Institute (Jamaica) Actor Boy Awards, two Audelco Award nominations for Excellence in Black Theatre and the New York City Council Award and Citation for Excellence in the Arts.

Upon receiving word recently that he was to be honored yet again, he was both grateful and nostalgic.

“It’s such an honor and a privilege to be recognized by Caribbean Life for my body of work, and I thank them profoundly for this pleasant surprise” he stated. “But rather than perceiving this award as recognition of what I’ve already achieved, I see it as further motivation to strive for the things I haven’t yet accomplished. I still believe the best is yet to come. And I’m so grateful to all the actors, directors, writers and crews I’ve had the pleasure to work with over the years. But most of all I wish my parents were here to see this. I lost them both at a relatively young age and they would be thrilled to here. But on the big night I’ll be surrounded by other family and close friends, so I’m looking forward to a memorable evening.
