The Las Vegas gunman’s bullets reportedly hit an aviation fuel tank near his hotel

David Choi From Business Insider

During Stephen Paddock’s Sunday-night shooting spree on the Las Vegas Strip, some bullets hit a nearby aviation fuel tank, a source told the Las Vegas Review-Journal in a report published Wednesday.

Though bullet holes were found on one of two massive circular tanks, they did not cause an explosion or fire, according to the Review-Journal’s source, who the newspaper said had knowledge of the ongoing investigation. The tanks sit on property owned by McCarran International Airport, about 1,100 feet from the site where the Route 91 Harvest country music event was being held.

Paddock’s 32nd-floor suite had direct views of the concert venue and the fuel tanks, the Review-Journal reported.

At least 58 people people at the concert were killed and more than 500 others were injured in the attack. Paddock had a cache of firearms in his room, at least one of which had a legally obtainable “bump stock” modification that allowed him to fire rounds much faster than he otherwise could with a semiautomatic rifle.
