The Editor speaks: Togetherness and Love

Colin Wilson

I really didn’t know what to write about today. The aftermath and the death of CITN/Cayman27 is still occupying my mind.

I happened to say to the lovely Jamaican young lady (Phyllisia) that stays with us, “I don’t know what to write about today”

She said, “Write about love. Surely Joan wrote a poem about love?”

What triggered that off was me telling Phyllisia about a beautiful concert Joan and I attended at The Mariott last Sunday. “Falling for You – MUSIC OF THE HEART”. It was all about LOVE.

I had told her about the beautiful song they finished with. The THEY being Dahlia Wynter, April Marr and Steve Higgins. Plus a lovely dancer – Amaya Lewis. The song was one that Sarah Brightman made famous – “Love Changes Everything”. I played it for Phyllisia. Not once, not twice but six times and she immediately downloaded it on her iPhone from Youtube. That is how much she loved it.

I looked for one of Joan’s poems on “LOVE”. I didn’t get a quarter of the way through her book”Buried Treasures Of Cayman” when I found this one “Togetherness”.

There is no word of “LOVE” in it but it contains the words, TOGETHERNESS”, “DEAR”, “CARE”, “TOUCH” and “BELONGING”.

After reading it gave me a feeling of “LOVE” and I hope it does the same for you.

TOGETHERNESS

By Joan (Watler) Wilson

*

There’s nothing as nice as togetherness

With friends we hold so dear

To share one’s delights or problems

And to show each other we care.

*

A look, a touch gives one a feeling of belonging.

*

But in these days of rush and never stop

We pass each other on the street or in a shop

‘Hello – how are you’ is all we have time to say

Too rushed – we’ve got to get away.

*

To what? A traffic jam, the office or where?

Surely we should have a moment to spare.

*

Maybe in our home we’ll have a cup of tea

I don’t know though we’ll have to wait and see

Wait? But time waits on no one I’m told

So make time for each other before you’re too old
