The Editor Speaks: Almost unbelievable

On Wednesday (25) Austin Harris on his radio talk-show “Cayman Crosstalk” with co-anchor Gilbert McLean, made the almost unbelievable announcement that the Hurley’s group had been “held hostage” because of the show.

“The deal is fire Gilbert and Austin and you’ll get what you want,” Harris revealed saying, “Infinity Broadband Ltd, which is a sister company of Hurley’s, has been told by government that it will not get a duty waiver for [their planned Cable TV project], even though all other businesses in the same field have received waivers.”

However, has the UDP government actually said in writing, “Fire Gilbert and Austin and you’ll get what you want”?

If this is true, then the message being sent to anyone looking to do business and invest millions of dollars into the economy, is the Cayman Islands is corrupt.

We all know that “favours” are given to persons and businesses that “toe the line” and/or give generously to the party in power or wants power. That is the horrible nature of the beast of our system, not only here but worldwide.

I still cannot find it in myself to believe that UDP government would actually make it a written condition to give a duty waiver that has been offered to “every other firm that has successfully chosen to take advantage of the liberalisation of television provision and acquired a licence” only if certain persons were dismissed from their organisation.

This has come to light just after a headline appeared in another media house saying that a man had been banned from the same talk show, “Cayman Crosstalk.”

However, what the man in question told the media house missed out a very important point according to Mr. Harris. The man was not allowed to call the show because he had told the show hosts he would hold them liable if something happened because of public fallout from his appearances on the call-in programme.

Mr. Harris said he could not allow Rooster FM to be held liable in such a situation, so he told [the man in question] not to call “Crosstalk” anymore.

Upon this matter I think Rooster were quite right. They are already facing legal action over comments made on the show about the premier’s leadership.

No prizes to anyone who guesses correctly who it is bringing this action.

And another almost unbelievable is why the RCIPS will not confirm or deny whether our premier has been interviewed in relation to the three probes he is at the centre of.

Mr. Bush says he has neither been interviewed nor notified of the investigations by the police.

Everything is difficult and mysterious here and then our authorities wonder why there are so many damaging blogs and speculation.

That is almost unbelievable, too.
