The opening night of the 2013 PwC Cayman Men’s Invitational took place this evening at the Cayman Islands Tennis Club.  Eight singles matches took place this evening in the round of 16’s.  It was a great vibe at the Club and it is only going to get better.  In the 5:30 matches we had two seeds playing to start the event.  Dennis Zivkovic, the number one seed, played a qualifier from last week’s PwC Cayman Open,  Chris Van de Water in the first round and defeating him 6-0, 6-2.  A second year veteran to the PwC Men’s Invite and the third seed in the tournament this year, Stefanno Ianni from Italy, defeated Eduardo Torres 6-0, 6-1.  Marcus Malcolm, from Jamaica and making his fourth year to the tournament played a qualifier and a Club Member Richard Harrison and won 6-1, 6-2.

The second tier of matches began at 7:00 this evening with our number two seed of the tournament, Philip Bester of Canada making his debut at the Club.  He beat Rob Weins the 2013 PwC Cayman Open Champ 6-2, 6-2.  Last year’s finalist and fourth seed of this year’s tournament, McCoy Malcolm of Jamaica took down Eamon Wilson 6-1, 6-3.  Richard Bullbring defeated Nikhil Jha 6-3, 6-2.

To cap off the evening we had the final two matches of the evening.  Ilian Nachev defeated Adam Bayley 6-0, 6-2.  Mica Koll, a past junior Club member took on a current junior Club member Alex Leonard.   Mica won 6-1, 6-2.

Tomorrow, we will have the singles quarterfinals beginning at 5:30 PM.  Dennis Zivkovic (1) will play against Mica Koll and Ilian Nachev will play against McCoy Malcolm (4).  At 7:00 PM, Stefanno Ianni (3) will be playing Marcus Malcolm and then Philip Bester (2) will be playing against Richard Bullbring.

We will also be having some doubles action tomorrow evening beginning at 8:30 PM.  It will be the first round of the doubles round robin format.  All doubles teams will be playing at 8:30.  <<…>>

Food will be provided by Hogg Bob’s BBQ for great tasting food with a reasonable price.

The 2013 PwC Cayman Men’s Invitational is turning out to be the event that was expected.  Please come out and support some of the best tennis the Island has seen.
