Four Teams Remain in Battle for Regional Supremacy, and to Lift the Confederation’s Newest Prize this October

Miami  – The Confederation of North, and Caribbean Association Football (CONCACAF) today unveiled the new trophy for the inaugural ScotiabankCONCACAF League, the Confederation’s newest club championship, and announced the first stops for the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League Trophy Tour.

The trophy will go to the victor of the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League, which began in early August with the participation of 16 club teams from across Central America and the Caribbean.

Following a riveting series of home-and-away knockout matches in the Round of 16 and the quarterfinals, four clubs remain – and CD Plaza Amador from Panama, CD Olimpia from Honduras, and AD Santos de Guapiles from – in the quest to add a centerpiece international prize to the trophy case and secure regional bragging rights for club and country.
The semifinals will begin with two matches in Panama this week. Deportivo Arabe Unido hosts Santos de Guapiles on Wednesday, followed by Plaza Amador versus CD Olimpia on Thursday, both at the Rommel Fernandez Stadium in .

To mark the semifinals’ kickoff and the Panamanian clubs’ quest for a first-ever international title for the country in eleven-a-side soccer, the Scotiabank CONCACAF League trophy has now arrived in Panama City. The trophy will visit various media houses before making appearances at the semifinal matches, where fans will have their chance to get up close and personal with the competition’s coveted prize.

The return legs of the semifinals will take place next week. Santos will play Deportivo Arabe Unido in Costa Rica, while Olimpia will host Plaza Amador in San Pedro Sula, Honduras. The trophy will visit Costa Rica ahead of next week’s match, with more details to be issued in the days ahead of the visit.

The championship home-and-away final of the Scotiabank CONCACAF League, between semifinal winners, is scheduled for October. In addition to earning a championship star and raising the inaugural SCL trophy, the tournament champion earns a ticket to join 15 additional club qualifiers from across the region – including Canada, Mexico and the United States, in the revamped Scotiabank CONCACAFChampions League.

The 2018 edition of the Scotiabank CONCACAF Champions League kicks off in February of next year, featuring the winner of the 2017 Scotiabank CONCACAF League and 15 more of the best clubs from the entire CONCACAF region, including the Caribbean and Central America, plus Mexico, the United States and Canada. The champion of that competition will represent the region in the 2018 FIFA Club World Cup.
