Scholarship at top Canadian School available to Caymanian students

PORT HOPE, ONTARIO, CANADA – Thursday, December 19th, 2018 – Trinity College School (TCS) is one of North America’s most respected boarding schools and boasts strong ties to the Cayman Islands. In January 2019, TCS will be travelling to the Cayman Islands to test and interview students interested in applying for a full-tuition scholarship for the 2019-2020 academic year.

Introduced in 2015, in commemoration of Trinity College School’s 150th anniversary, the Cayman Scholarship replaced the tradition of the Hunter Scholarship, awarded in the Cayman Islands since the 1980s. For the 2019-2020 academic year, one merit-based, full-tuition scholarship will be awarded to a new boarding student who is a current resident of the Cayman Islands. TCS representatives will be travelling to the Cayman Islands on January 5-7, 2019, for testing and interviewing of interested students entering Grade 9-12 in 2019. Interested Caymanian residents should contact the Director of Admissions at TCS, Mrs. Kathy LaBranche directly at [email protected].

The recipient of the Cayman Scholarship must exhibit academic excellence, leadership potential and the desire to become engaged in all aspects of the TCS community. Previous recipients include Joe Roberts (Class of 2011) and Cameron McWatt (Class of 2015) and Zororo Mutomba (Class of 2019).

Trinity College School is becoming the leading Canadian boarding school for Cayman students, building on a tradition that dates back to the early 1980s when the first Cayman students came to the School. Today, the TCS Cayman Branch includes 132 alumni, students, and past and current parents, with 17 students currently enrolled at the School.

While attending TCS, current scholarship recipient, Zororo Mutomba, was appointed by the Headmaster, based a vote of all students and staff, to hold the position of Head Prefect for the current academic year. The Head Prefect position is the most prestigious student leadership position at TCS with one male and one female graduating student selected each year. “I am so fortunate to have received the Cayman Islands Scholarship because without it I would not have attended TCS and had the opportunities I have had here,” says Zororo. “I have made friendships I know will last a long time… I have found mentors in different teachers and the overwhelming amount of support at TCS has helped me better myself academically. I would not trade the time I have had at TCS for anything and that is why I am so grateful to have received this scholarship.”

Trinity College School (TCS) is a leading co-educational boarding and day school for 580 young people from Grades 5- 12. The School is situated on a beautiful 100-acre campus located in the town of Port Hope, Ontario, Canada, one hour’s drive east of Toronto, founded in 1865, the School places a balanced emphasis on academics, service learning, athletics, and the arts – as both a long-held TCS tradition and a rethought, reinvigorated approach to 21st century education.
