From RCIPS Thu, Jan 16, 2014 at 5:01 PM

A Caymanian man has been arrested and is currently detained in police custody following a robbery in Fort Street earlier today.

About noon today, Thursday 16 January, a 28-year-old woman had just withdrawn some cash from the Butterfield ATM in Fort Street, when she was approached by a man armed with a knife. The man threatened the women, grabbed her hand and then ran off with a sum of cash. He was last seen running in the direction of the Fidelity Bank through the car park at the rear. The woman sustained a small cut to her forearm as the suspect grabbed her, but she did not require any medical attention.

The suspect was described as being a Caribbean male with a light brown complexion, aged 25-26 years, of slim build and with a clear hair line. He was wearing jean pants and a grey hooded top.

A police investigation was launched and, as a result, a man was arrested on suspicion of robbery around 2.45pm in the Shedden Road area. He remains in police custody while enquiries continue.

Anyone who was in the area of the bank around noon today and witnessed the robbery is asked to contact George Town CID. Anyone who saw the suspect before the incident, or running off afterwards, is also asked to come forward. Information can be passed on 949-4222, the RCIPS tip-line 949-7777 or via Crime Stoppers 800-8477(TIPS).
