Premiership kicks off

Manchester United are firm favourites to win the Premiership as the English season gets underway this week.

Sir Alex Ferguson’s men are hoping for a 20th title but face competition from big spenders and neighbours Manchester City.

Pundits feel it will be a tough season ahead for Arsenal who have lost their influential captain Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona.

Gunners Manager Arsene Wenger is the bookmakers favourite to be first boss to get the bullet once the season starts.

Chelsea under new coach Andrea Villa Boas will pose a threat but the young Portuguese manager needs to get Fernando Torres firing on all cylinders.

A revitilised Liverpool team, under new manager Kenny Dalglish will also challenge the top four especially after splashing out on Stewart Dowing, Jordan Henderson, Charlie Adam and this week, full-back Jose Enrique.

New boys Swansea, Norwich and Queens Park Rangers face a long season as they fight to retain Premier League status.

But it’ll be all eyes on Manchester United.

They kicked off their fight to regain the title away at West Bromwich Albion but will do so without summer target
Wesley Sneijder.

The Dutch international looks certain to stay at Inter Milan after United cooled on a possible move to Old Trafford.
