UPDATE Power outage across Grand Cayman/Eastern Districts back to school

Power outage – UPDATE

Outage Update at: 3:15pm.

CUC customers in the Savannah area, parts of George Town, West Bay Road and North Side were affected by rotating power outages which occurred between 11:38 am and 2:05 pm today. Just over 5500 of CUC’s 28, 000 customers were affected, with most of the outages being less than an hour long.

The outages were the result of a temporary shortage in generating capacity due the sudden loss of one of the company’s generating units that triggered a cascade in loss of other units. CUC’s maintenance crews worked as quickly as possible to return the generating units to service in a safe manner and to restore power to all customers.

CUC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to customers affected by this outage.

From CUC August 26

The loss of power generation at the North Sound plant is the cause of the power outage currently being experienced by a number of customers across Grand Cayman. Our crews are working to restore power to customers as safely and quickly as possible. We currently anticipate that power will be restored within an hour. CUC sincerely apologizes for the inconvenience caused to customers affected by this outage.

From RCIPS Tue, Aug 26, 2014 at 12:57 PM

The Eastern Districts will see an increase of motorists and police presence on the streets as the Schools reopen in Savannah, Bodden Town, Frank Sound, North Side and East End.

The District Commander, Ch. Inspector Brad Ebanks states, “There may be delays in the school zones due to new students and advise the motoring public to exercise caution when travelling through these areas”.

Officers will be on locations to minimize traffic congestions and ensure that the Law is adhered to. Motorists are reminded to not only be cautious and courteous, but that the speed limit is 15mph when the school zone lights are flashing.
