Man injured in boat fire

On Saturday, 28^th February 2015 at about 8:40 am, a 46-year-old male resident of George Town was doing repairs on a 40-foot pontoon boat at the Reef Dock, North Church Street when a flash fire occurred on the boat. As a result of the fire, the male received severe burns to his arms and legs.  He was transported to the George Town Hospital in critical condition, but stable; he is in the process of being airlifted overseas for further treatment. No one else was physically injured, and the boat was not damaged.

The matter is under investigation by officers of the RCIPS Marine Unit.

Busy police weekend

Between Friday, 27^th February and Sunday, 01^st March 2015, officers of the RCIPS arrested 19 persons. One of those for assault (ABH), one for theft who was subsequently formally charged. 05 for driving under the influence.  Despite widespread warnings to motorists not to drink and drive, motorists still continue to breach the Traffic Law and risk being disqualified from driving, injuring themselves and others. Acting Superintendent of District Operations, Angelique Howell states, “The public can be reassured that officers of the RCIPS will continue to be vigilant and proactive towards identifying and prosecuting drunk drivers, and we encourage members of the public to assist the police in reporting motorists who they suspect are  driving  under the influence to 911.” The other arrests were in relation to various offences such as assaulting police, abstracting electricity, disorderly conduct at a licensed premises, driving without license and insurance, causing fear or provocation of violence, breach of bail and 07  arrested on warrant for failing to appear in Court.

“We are focused on all crimes and determine to bring those who believe they can continue to break the laws to justice”, said Acting Superintendent of District Operations, Angelique Howell.
